Real-world data shows efficacy of combining MIGS devices in open-angle glaucoma
A safe and clinically meaningful reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) and number of medications was achieved in patients undergoing iStent inject W trabecular micro-bypass combined with iAccess precision blade goniotomy in the setting of phacoemulsification in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG), according to data presented at the 2023 American Glaucoma Society Annual Meeting.
In this retrospective, unmasked, nonrandomized, 2-surgeon study, 22 patients (31 eyes) underwent phacoemulsification combined with iStent inject W implantation and iAccess precision blade goniotomy. Ten patients had mild glaucoma, 19 patients had moderate patients, and 2 patients had severe glaucoma.
At baseline, mean IOP was 18.3±4.1 mmHg, mean number of medications was 1.55±1.21, and best corrected visual acuity was 0.25±0.15. At 1 month these were reduced to 14.5±2.9 (n = 15, P <0.001), 0.4±1.02 (n = 20, P = 0.003), and 0.16±0.14 respectively.
Transient inflammation without clinical sequelae (n = 2) were the only postoperative adverse events.
